LEVEL 1 - TRAVEL ADVISORY

A Travel Advisory is intended to notify Pendleton County residents of hazardous road conditions and will be effective until further notice.  Cautious driving is advised.

This Travel Advisory will be rescinded by County Officials when road conditions are no longer in a dangerous or hazardous condition.

LEVEL 2 - TRAVEL WARNING

A Travel Warning is intended to notify Pendleton County residents that roadways are covered with snow and / or ice and are extremely hazardous. Only motorists whose travel is absolutely necessary should be on the roadways. Residents are urged to contact their employer to see if they should report to work. County officials are requesting that travel in Pendleton County be limited to essential travel or emergency vehicles only.

Essential travel is defined as that travel necessitated for life sustaining means, including but not limited to; travel for medical purposes, travel for obtainment of food or water, travel for employment purposes, or travel for obtainment of heating fuel or heating sources. This travel warning is not mandatory nor is it an order declaring nonessential traffic illegal.

Residents are urged to contact their employer to see if they should report to work.

This Travel Warning will be rescinded by County Officials when road conditions are no longer in a dangerous or hazardous condition.

DRIVE CAUTIOUSLY

The decision to call any of the above levels is a specific and difficult one. Remember, it’s impossible to know the condition of every road in the county. These are only guidelines for the majority of roads. If, for example, a Level 1 Snow Emergency is in effect, there may be secondary roads that could be hazardous enough to be rated at Level 2.

If there is snow present, you should always assume that the road ahead is worse than the stretch of road you are currently on. In short, drive with extra regard for your speed and those around you especially on curves, hills, and the bridges which usually freeze well before the rest of the roadway. Also give yourself PLENTY of stopping distance especially on icy roads.
